Love this thing September 6, 2010 Rich Great product and the price is great for the functionality you get. I have all my electronics in a coat closet so they are out of sight and the PowerBlaster allows me to control them all without them ever being seen. I had expected to need to use the little ir extensions since the line of sight was not the best, but not needed.
The flexibility of the programming allowed me to control an older audio system along with my newer components and since you can customize the buttons individually limit the amount of mode switching you need to do, so for example when in satellite mode most controls handle the sat box, but volume controls the tv. When in dvd mode, the volume is through the amplifier.
The only downsides I have found so far are that the backlight is marginal, and I have already gone through a set of batteries in about 6 mo.
Excellent Value for the Money September 3, 2010 Timmy (Long Island NY) I got mine for about $80 w/ free shipping.
I only have one Home Theater setup in my house: Plasma, Onkyo Receiver/DVD, DishNetwork HD Dual Tuner, Dual Output.
Setup took a bit of time (you get what you pay for), I had to teach it a few buttons to get everything dialed in the exact way I wanted. Everything works.
I created Power Up/Dn, & 5 "Source Switching" macros. I can power up & down, switch from Sat to DVD, to Tuner etc.
I'm extremely happy w/ this remote and I feel that the people who bash this remote because they can't have 2 in the house or because it's hard to program aren't giving an $80 Learning RF remote with IR blasters a fair shake. Those users need to spend the $350.
Way better product than Best Buys August 27, 2010 Clay, NY I ran my HDMI cables under the floor (basement) so I wouldn't have my cable box & DVD player out where the TV is mounted. I needed an RF remote because everything was hidden in a closet. I went to Best Buy and there RF remote was $250. on sale and then I found this RF remote on Amazon for $90. so I decided to give it a try. It works awesome. Easy to program, works through walls & my closet door, & much cheaper. I would definately recommend this to anyone that is looking to to have a clean look to their house. You can have a TV in a room and all your componets hidden out of sight.
Excellent, But Learning Curve Required for Programming August 25, 2010 Sail Away With all the devices in our homes these days, a universal remote control is a wonderful thing to have. The RFS200 PowerPak is a great system! It will handle the control of just about every common home audio/video system you could imagine and reduce all of those remotes into this one unit. And, with RF (radio frequency) transmission of the remote control signals, your equipment can be hidden but still be controlled by this unit.
Programming the remote is logical, but does require some time, planning, attention to details and a slight learning curve. However, once you have figured out the basic logic behind the programming steps, and once you have gone through a few of the steps, it becomes easier. Just bear in mind that you will need to spend some careful time programming the unit, and be at least somewhat comfortable with the basic remote control commands. In summary, be prepared to spend some time getting the remote programmed.
Also of note, it will take a little time to get used to the new remote once it is programmed. For example, you can program certain buttons to work only after the button has been held down for a few seconds. This may take some getting used to, especially if you have other members of your family who need training on the new remote.
Once programmed correctly, and once you get a feel for the programmed buttons, you will LOVE this remote control system. All of your other remotes can be put away forever.
In my opinion, although I am a "techie" and enjoy these kinds of products, the long-run benefits of this wonderful universal remote control GREATLY outweight any minor concern or confusion you might have about getting it programmed correctly.
Quite Good Overall, Very Good for the Money August 24, 2010 Magnum O.k. so I'll admit I've only had this for one day, but I will submit an updated review if anything changes. So far, so good. I found the remote very easy to program. I had little success with programming using the codes in the book. However, the learning feature was quick, easy and effective. This learning feature is great as it allows you to set the remote up the way you want. The included "set up" cd made programming a breeze. Once programmed, I simply plugged in the power blaster, closed the cabinet and everything worked perfectly. Overall, it was easier than I had expected.
Thus far, my only complaint is that the remote could have a few more standard buttons. For instance, there is no record button. Having DVR, it would have been nice to have that button. Having said that, I simply used one of the buttons to the right of the lcd screen. These can be customized and the lcd text can be customized as well. Now my LCD reads "DVR" next to the button that takes me to the DVR menu. Other buttons that would be great would be page up and page down buttons. Overall this isn't a huge problem since most of the buttons on the remote can be customized. However, it would make it a little better as you wouldn't have to customize as many buttons.
In the end, I don't see anything on the market that even compares for the money. I'm not a "techie" so I'm sure I'm not maximizing the capabilities of this remote. Nor do I notice some of the more technical misses that I have read about from others. I just needed a remote that would control multiple components in a closed cabinet and didn't want to over pay for the solution. If this is your need, you need not worry about your decision. This remote works great, is easy to program and is fairly priced. End of discussion.
